This is a sketch for a proposal to make a sculpture to commemorate Mozart's many visits to London in his very early years.
The musical family would invariably stay at a guest house in Ebury Street, from which they would 'conduct' a gruelling schedule of concerts, recitals and other bookings.
Not an easy life for anyone ... much less for a child of only five or six ... and what effect on the music?
The drawing was entered for a competition where they proscribed a standing position for the sculpture, but the sitting position - on the eternal travelling trunk - seemed to encapsulate the pathos of the young genius' life at that time.
